Worldwide Persecution of Jews

Date:
Location:
2322 Rayburn House Office Bldg.

Hearing Notice

Please join the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission for a hearing on the worldwide persecution of Jews. The hearing will provide a global overview of antisemitism, including the prevalence and forms of antisemitism in various parts of the world, and governmental responses to antisemitism – whether they seek to combat it or foster, and assess the effectiveness of government policies to combat antisemitism, and what is and can be done with governments that foster antisemitism.

In the past year many leading advocacy and research organizations have released reports documenting significant increases in antisemitism in many countries of the world, including the United States. These include the American Jewish Committee, the Anti-Defamation League, the Combat Antisemitism MovementTel Aviv University and others. Many researchers noted that the dramatic spike in many indexes of antisemitism can be seen after October 2023 – but that a rise in antisemitism was evident already before that date. Witnesses will speak to different forms of antisemitism, factors that appear to drive it, the role of governments and civil society and various intergovernmental and international attempts to combat antisemitism. At a time when governments and civil society are evaluating the effectiveness of previous measures to combat antisemitism, witnesses will offer recommendations for Congress.

  • Ted Deutch, Chief Executive Officer, American Jewish Committee
  • Marina Rosenberg, Senior Vice President for International Affairs, Anti-Defamation League
  • Eric Fusfield, Director of Legislative Affairs, B’nai B’rith International
  • Stacy Burdett, Consultant, Antisemitism Response and Prevention

The hearing will be held in person and is open to Members of Congress, congressional staff, the interested public, and the media. The public and the media may attend in person or view the hearing by live webcast on the Commission website. The hearing will also be available for viewing on the House Digital Channel service.
