Co-Chairs Urge Trump to Appoint Special Coordinator for Tibetan Issues

June 22, 2017

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Co-Chairs James P. McGovern and Randy Hultgren, and 19 other members of the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission, were among the 37 Members of Congress who wrote to President Trump yesterday to urge him to quickly name the Special Coordinator for Tibetan Issues. The position was created by Congress in 2002 with a mandate to promote the preservation of Tibet's unique religious, cultural, linguistic and national identity and the equal protection of the human rights of Tibetans in China. The Members of Congress encouraged the President to appoint a Special Coordinator as soon as possible in order to continue the bipartisan U.S. congressional commitment to supporting the rights and well-being of the Tibetan people.
