Commission Members Call for Release of Mohammed Nasheed

Washington, D.C. -- On July 31, 2015, the TLHRC Co-Chairs, Rep. James P. McGovern and Rep. Joseph R. Pitts, and two other members of the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission, Rep. Janice D. Schakowsky and Rep. Eliot L. Engel, called on President Abdulla Yameen of the Republic of Maldives to immediately and unconditionally release former president Mohammed Nasheed and other political prisoners, and to guarantee the rights of all the citizens of Maldives to freedom of assembly and expression.
