TLHRC Co-Chairs Call for the Release of Journalist and Defending Freedoms Project Prisoner of Conscience Khaled Drareni

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressmen James P. McGovern (D-MA) and Christopher H. Smith (R-NJ), Co-Chairs of the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission in the U.S. Congress, sent a letter to the Ambassador of Algeria expressing their concerns regarding freedom of expression in Algeria following the arbitrary detention and sentencing of renown journalist Khaled Drareni. Serving as the Algeria correspondent for Reporters sans frontières (RSF) and TV5 Monde, as well as the editor of the Casbah Tribune news website, Khaled Drareni was arrested March 2020 for covering the Hirak protest movement.
