Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission Celebrates Human Rights Day 2014

December 10, 2014

Washington, DC - Today, December 10, 2014, the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission joins the global community in celebrating Human Rights Day, which marks the 66th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The Commission strongly endorses this year's theme, "Human Rights 365," recognizing that human rights must be respected and celebrated every day of the year.

Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission Co-Chair James P. McGovern wishes to bring special attention to the work of human rights defenders around the world: "These brave men and women routinely make great personal sacrifices on the behalf of those who are unable to speak out for themselves. Human rights defenders often carry out their work in the face of great personal peril; they are the very definition of courage. Their efforts make the world a better place, and they are worthy of our sincerest praise, utmost respect, and continued support.
